Panorama da Disciplina de Orientação Profissional no Estado de São Paulo e sua importância no ensino da Fonoaudiologia / View of the Professional Guidance Discipline in São Paulo State and its importance to the speech-language pathology student

Introdução - O Curso de Graduação em Fonoaudiologia estabelece como perfil profissional uma formação generalista, humanista, crítica e reflexiva, sendo capacitado a atuar, sempre pautado em princípios éticos, no campo clínico-terapêutico e preventivo das práticas fonoaudiológicas. O objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar os Cursos de Fonoaudiologia do Estado de São Paulo que possuem em seu currículo a Disciplina de Orientação Profissional, além de abordar a importância da mesma para a formação do profissional. Material e Métodos - Foram acessados os sites da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia, do Conselho Federal e Regionais de Fonoaudiologia, além das páginas das faculdades que possuem o Curso de Fonoaudiologia no Estado de São Paulo, a fim de realizar o levantamento dos cursos que possuem em sua grade curricular a Disciplina de Orientação Profissional. Resultados - Obteve-se que o número de cursos que possuem a Disciplina de Orientação Profissional e/ou Ética Profissional em sua grade curricular foi de 29,1%. Conclusões - Diante dos dados apresentados, é possível observar que tal disciplina, apesar da fundamental importância ao permitir uma visão abrangente ao estudante a respeito das possibilidades de atuação em nosso país, ainda é pouco abordada nos cursos de graduação.

Introduction - The Course of Speech-Language Pathology establishes as professional profile a general form, humanist, critice and reflexive, being enabled to act, always following ethical principles, in the therapeutic-clinic and preventive on their practices. The objective was to verify the amount of courses of Speech-Language Pathology of the São Paulo State that possess in its curricular grating the Discipline of Guides Professional and approach regarding the importance of the same one. Material and Methods - For the present study had been accessed the sites of the Brazilian Society of Speech-Language Pathology, Federal Council of Speech-Language Pathology and the Regional Council of Speech-Language Pathology, and pages of the colleges that possess the course of Speech-Language Pathology in the São Paulo State, in order to carry through the survey of the courses that possess in its curricular grating the Discipline of Guides Professional. Results - The results showed that the courses of Speech-Language Pathology in the São Paulo State that possess this Discipline were of 29,1%. Conclusions - Ahead of the presented data, it's possible to observe that the Discipline, besides the importance allowing a including thought for students about the possibilitiesof acts in our country, isn't present in the majority of the courses of Speech-Language Pathology.

Odontologia: um breve histórico / Dentistry: a historical brief

O presente trabalho baseia-se em uma recvisão da literatuta, abordando os aspectos históricos referentes à consolidação da Odontologia como profissão regulamentada, assim como uma reflexão crítica a respeito das características deste exercício profissional e seu embasamento. Devido a uma falta notadamente sentida por parte da literatura científica a respeito da história da Odontologia, o objetivo deste trabalho é trazer ao profissional e ao estudante de Odontologia noções sobre a estruturação da profissão, passando pelas etapas de profissionalização e as regulamentações específicas. Conclui-se pela necessidade de um maior conhecimento e, consequentemente, discussão a respeito da profissão odontológica, seus problemas e desafios.

Utilization of xylitol as a preventive substance in dentistry

Dental caries is an infectious-contagious disease of multifactorial origin, which requires interference in one or more of its etiologic factors for prevention. Within this context, the utilization of xylitol is highlighted, which was initially studied as a sugar substitute because of its similarity as regards the sweetening power and later was also employed in other forms for caries prevention and control. The purpose of this study is to describe, by means of a review of the specialized literature, how xylitol can be used as an anticariogenic agent, demonstrating its properties and possible mechanisms of action in the prevention and control of dental caries. Analysis of many studies on xylitol revealed that it is available in many forms: chewing gums or tablets, mouthrinses, or even associated to toothpastes. Its anticariogenic properties are related to the reduction in plaque adhesion, remineralization of incipient carious lesions, and specific reduction of S. mutans.
